Lions Fall to DBU

DALLAS, TEXAS- The A&M-Commerce Volleyball team (4-17) was looking to keep the momentum rolling after an upset win over Angelo State as the Lions traveled to Dallas Baptist (9-8). The Lions dropped the first set in dramatic fashion and never could recover losing the match in three sets (30-28, 25-17, 25-16).

The first set was  gut wrenching each team going back and forth. An Amy Davault kill sparked a 3-0 Lion run making the score 16-15 in favor of Dallas Baptist. Later in the set Davault again brought A&M-Commerce back with three kills in four points followed by a DBU error tied the score at 24. The Lions and Patriots would continue to trade points until DBU went on a 2-0 run to end the set winning 30-28.

The Patriots led the second set from start to finish. A Sydney Reyes kill led to a 3-0 Lions run highlighted by a Delanee Clark kill making the score 17-10 DBU. That would be as close as the Lions would get falling 25-17.

The Lions scored four of the first six points to start the third set. During that run Davault had two kills. Taryn Driver and Clark each chipped in with kills of their own giving A&M-Commerce a 4-2 lead. The Patriots would go on a big run of their own rattling off 13 of 14 points to give DBU a 17-7 lead en route to a set three win.

The Patriots were led offensively by Erika Paapadeas who notched a match-high 18 kills and Kaycie Bird who contributed 45 assists. Tadam Mergener led DBU defensively with a match-high 20 digs.
