Box Score

KINGSVILLE, Texas – Texas A&M-Kingsville (9-13, 4-8 Lone Star Conference) used a plus-27 margin from three-point range while leading for all but eight seconds to beat A&M-Commerce (4-18, 3-9 LSC), 80-55.

The Javelinas left little doubt after suffering a triple-overtime, 107-102, loss to Texas Woman's the previous night. Kingsville shot 52.6 percent from three, which is the second time in the last three games that the Lions have allowed an opponent to shot at 50% from behind the arc.

Breanna Harris recorded 12 points and seven rebounds, six of which came on the offensive glass. La'Tisha Hearne was also in double figures with 11 for the Lions. Aubree Butts and Abigail Leaupepe-Tele had eight each and Alize Pegue tallied seven including the lone three-pointer for the Lions.

A Harris layup at the 18:56 mark of the first half gave the Lions their only lead of the night at 5-4; the Javelinas then came right back down the floor and took the lead back after Sheana Jones hit a layup. A&M-Kingsville will not look back for the rest of the night.

The Jones layup started a 13-0 run over the next four minutes that saw the Javelinas hit three triples. A Leaupepe-Tele layup ended the drought for the Lions to make it 19-7 after the first six minutes of play.

The Lions did cut the lead to single digits just past halfway in the first half after a Symone Brown jumper but Kingsville got the lead back to 11 less than 20 seconds later.

A Hearne jumper got the Lions to within nine again a few minutes later but the Javelinas answered and eventually pushed the lead to 18, 39-21, with just over 90 seconds to play in the first half.

Early in the second the Javelinas quickly doubled-up the Lions, 50-25, and then made it a 27-point advantage after a Rosalie Cutri jumper. The Lions would not get within 20 for the remainder of the evening.

A&M-Commerce now turns it attention to Eastern New Mexico for a Wednesday night contest at The Field House. The Lions will try to split the season series with the Zias after dropping the first meeting out in Portales back in mid-January.
