Lion Women's Basketball receives WBCA Team Academic Special Mention

ATLANTA – The East Texas A&M University women's basketball team's cumulative grade point average ranks top 75 in NCAA Division I, earning special mention from the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).

The Lions were in consideration for the top 25 honor roll compiled by the WBCA, having recorded a team GPA of 3.53 during the 2025-26 academic year. The Lions' team GPA ranks highest among the Southland Conference and 71st in the country.

The WBCA Academic Top 25 recognizes college women's basketball teams across the nation in their respective divisions that carry the highest combined GPAs inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season. A team must have a combined GPA of 3.0 or better and be nominated by its head coach who must be a member of the WBCA to be recognized. The 2025-26 season is the 31st in which the WBCA has compiled the honor rolls.

Along with their effort in the classroom, the Lions returned to the postseason, playing in the Southland Conference Tournament and recorded two non-conference wins over Division I opponents and swept the season series against two-time defending Southland Conference Tournament champion SFA.
