COMMERCE, Texas – A&M-Commerce controlled the glass and held a 13-point advantage in points in the paint en route to the win and the season sweep of Cameron. The win also gives the Lions the tiebreaker over the Aggies if needed to determine seeding for the Lone Star Conference Tournament in March.
A&M-Commerce (4-15, 3-7 Lone Star Conference) trailed only once for a total of 25 seconds in the first half and never lead by less than eight in the second half over Cameron (9-10, 1-8 LSC).
La'Tisha Hearne led the Lions with 15 points and just missed a double-double with nine rebounds.
Devin Oliver had 12 points and two steals. It marks the third straight game that Dixon is double figures.
Breanna Harris posted her 35th career double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Aubree Butts had six points, seven rebounds and four assists and
Ashlee Johnson had seven points, four rebounds and three assists for A&M-Commerce.
After Cameron took their only lead at 9-8 the Lions scored seven of the next 11 points to take a 15-11 lead that was capped by a Johnson layup. The Aggies cut the lead to two with 2:28 left before the Lions closed the half on a seven to nothing run to take a 36-27, after a
Symone Brown jumper, into halftime.
The lead became 11 after an Oliver three-pointer at the 19-minute mark of the second half. Another three from Oliver gave the Lions their largest lead of the night at 53-30 with 13:21 to play in the game.
Cameron would then try to get back into the game and cut the lead to 12 after an 11-3 run over the course of five minutes. The Lions then extended the lead back out to 19 after two free throws from Butts at the 5:19 mark. Cameron would then try to mount one last comeback but could not get within 11 at any point for the rest of the game.
The Lions now travel to Wichita Falls for a road game versus Midwestern State on Saturday. A&M-Commerce will look to sweep Mustangs for the first time since the 1995-96 season.
