GOODYEAR, Ariz. – After the first day of the Mustang Intercollegiate, the A&M-Commerce Lions find themselves in a tie for seventh place, led by an opening-round 76 from senior
Chantry McMahan at the Palm Valley Golf Club.
McMahan finished four over par for the day, firing matching 38s on either nine to finish in a four-way knot for seventh place with 18 holes to play. Her 76 is just three shots off the pace, and one shot behind four players tied for fifth place overall.
Haley Green joined McMahan in the mix near the top, just one shot back with a 77 in her first tournament since the Lion Invitational. She fired a 40 on the front nine and followed that up with a 37 on the back side to finish in a 10-way logjam for 13
th at the end of the opening round.
The duo's solid day has the Lions in a tie with CSU-San Marcos for seventh place with a 319-shot total after one round. That has them a shot ahead of Saint Martin's, and one shot back of both CSU-East Bay and Sonoma State.
The Lions' scoring was closed out by both
Chelsea McCoy and
Emily Taylor, who each stand in a tie for 58
th after each fired an 83 for the day. Freshman
Zoey Daneshfar also finished with an 86 for the day, good for a tie for 71
st individually.
A&M-Commerce will close out the tournament with the final round on Tuesday.
