Lions Soccer Stopped 0-2 vs. No. 20 Columbus State

Cougar Offense Proves Too Much as Lions Fall to 2-1-0

Box Score PENSACOLA, FLA. – The Lions' hot start to the season came to an end on Friday against one of the best teams in the country, losing 2-0 to No. 20 Columbus State University.

The game, which was played at the neutral location Ashton Brosnaham Park in Pensicola, Fla., featured a steady outpouring of offense from the Cougars, who generated 15 shots on goal during the contest. Despite letting two goals by, A&M-Commerce goalkeeper Courtnie Northern kept the Lions in the game with a valiant 11 saves on the afternoon.

The Lions struggled to find shots, only managing to get four on net. Forward Savannah Henderson was responsible for two of them as she tried to add on her already-impressive total of nine points on the season. Vicky Back and Callie Annett also managed a shot each. Unfortunately for the Lions, CSU keeper Maylyn Parsons managed to stave every attempt off and hold on for the shutout.

Sophomore midfielder Stephanie Kolwicz (20') and junior forward Tori Hood (79') provided the goal-scoring for the Cougars, earning their first and second goals of the season respectively.

The Lions will try and put this one behind them, as they still have unfinished business to attend to in Florida. On Sunday, September 14 at 12:30 p.m., they will face the University of West Florida Argonauts. After that, they will fly back to Texas in time for their game in Dallas against the Dallas Baptist University Patriots on Tuesday, September 16 at 7 p.m.
