PENSACOLA, FLA. – The Lions are getting ready for the most difficult match on their schedule, as they look to face the No. 2 ranked team in the nation, the University of West Florida Argonauts this Sunday, September 14.
Â
After a dominant 2-0 start where the Lions outscored opponents a combined 6-1, A&M-Commerce suffered a setback on Friday when they lost 0-2 to the No. 20 ranked Columbus State Cougars. They will head into their game against West Florida hoping to get their offense back on track and improve on their 2-1-0 record.
Â
Despite their No. 2 ranking, the Argonauts are only 1-1-0, and dropped their last game to No. 9 Rollins at home. However, they did manage to win their opener decisively, beating Lincoln Memorial 4-1.
Â
Through two games, West Florida has spread its goal-scoring around to four different players. Their current leading scorer is Icelandic sophomore midfielder
Sara Helgadottir, who's racked up five points on the season (2G, 1A).
Â
In the program's twenty-year history, Lions soccer has never before played against the University of West Florida, so Sunday's game will present the Lions with an unfamiliar opponent. The match is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. CST.
