Box Score PENSACOLA, FLA. – The A&M-Commerce Lions undoubtedly shook up the Division II rankings on Sunday by stunning the No. 2 ranked team in the nation, the University of West Florida, shutting them out 2-0 on the Argonauts' home field.
Â
After a scoreless first half where both teams limited the other offensively, senior forward
Callie Annett put the Lions ahead early in the second half with a header, beating UWF keeper
Emily Grammer. 23 minutes later,
Madison Cordts, a junior transfer from Illinois Central College, scored a go-ahead insurance goal to put the Lions ahead 2-0. Annett's goal, her first of the season, proved to be the game-winner.
Â
A&M-Commerce goalkeeper
Courtnie Northern was again stellar in net, stopping five shots en route to her second shutout of the season. Northern, who has played every minute in 2014, has only allowed three goals in the four games she's played.

The next batch of Division II rankings is set to come out this Tuesday, September 16. The Argonauts will surely expect to take a tumble after dropping a game to the Lions, who entered Sunday's contest with no national ranking. Conversely, the Lions expect to improve upon their No. 10 ranking in the South Central Region following their big win.

Leading Lions scorer
Savannah Henderson (4G, 1A) threatened to add to her point total early in the game on a high shot in the fourth minute. However, the attempt careened off the crossbar, rendering her scoreless for the second consecutive game.
Â
Argonauts forward
Daryl Bell did what she could to try and spark something for the UWF offense by shooting three shots on goal. However, none of them could find their way home.

The Lions will try and ride this momentum all the way to Dallas, where they will play the Dallas Baptist University Lady Patriots (2-1-1) on Tuesday, September 16 at 7:00 p.m. After that, they will finally come back home, where they will have the opportunity to get revenge against the St. Edward's University Hilltoppers, the team that knocked the Lions out of the NCAA Tournament last season. That game is scheduled for Friday, September 19 at 7:00 p.m.
