Lions Soccer Heads to Dallas to Take On DBU

A&M-Commerce to Try and Crack Tough Lady-Patriot Defense

DALLAS, TEXAS – Fresh off their stunning upset over the No. 2 ranked University of West Florida Argonauts, the Lions (3-1-0) are preparing for another challenging contest against the Dallas Baptist University Lady Patriots (2-1-1) in Dallas, Texas.

DBU is ranked No. 7 overall in the South Central region, three spots higher than the Lions, who are ranked No. 10. However, both teams' positions are expected to improve in the next rankings update. As already stated, the Lions knocked off the number two team in the country, while also beating St. Mary's earlier in the week. DBU meanwhile has strung together two wins in a row, one of which was a 4-0 win against the No. 4 team in the region, Fort Lewis.

The Lady Patriots have looked fairly pedestrian offensively, with only 5 goals in 4 games on the season. With that said though, they've simultaneously done an excellent job at limiting opponent scoring, having only allowed three goals on the season. DBU keeper Kerry Edwards has strung together two consecutive shutouts, and is currently riding an active shutout streak of 212:35. During that period, her defense has done an exquisite job at limiting shots on goal, with Edwards only having had to make eight saves over that span.

The offense that DBU has managed to generate has for the most part come from junior forward Ashley Cox and senior midfielder Lea Sedwick. The two have combined for three goals and an assist on 12 shots on goal. That's 43% of the Lady-Patriots entire 2014 shot output.

The game is scheduled for Tuesday, September 16, 7:00 p.m. at Sedwick Soccer Field House in Dallas, Texas. After that, the Lions will finally return home to face the No. 1 ranked team in the South Central region, the St. Edward's University Hilltoppers. That contest is scheduled for Friday, September 19 at 7:00 p.m.
