COMMERCE, TEXAS- A&M-Commerce women's volleyball team came into tonight's match trying to end Texas Woman's four match win streak. Despite a great performance by Amy Davault who finished with a match-high 17 kills the Lions fell in three sets (25-18, 25-14, 25-22). With A&M-Commerce trailing 14-7 in the first set
Sydney Reyes sparked a 3-0 run with a kill, and then back-to-back blocks to make the score 14-11 Pioneers. However, that was as close as the Lions would get dropping the first set. Davault had a game-high 7 kills, and recorded the first three points for A&M-Commerce.
Davault kept the Lions close to start the second set sparking a 3-0 run with back-to-back kills that tied the set 5-5. The Pioneers would answer with a run of their own rattling off 11 consecutive points en route to a 25-14 victory. Davault had eight kills and a hitting percentage of .333 in the set.
With the Lions trailing 21-12 A&M-Commerce was able to go a 5-0 run behind back-back kills by Davault and Reyas and a service ace by Chassidy Hill.
Courtney Tate added a service ace that brought the score to 23-20, however, the comeback attempt came up short as Texas Woman's took the set and match.
With the win Texas Woman's brings their win streak to five and now have a record of (8-4, 4-1 LSC). The Pioneers were lead by Morgan Wilson who recorded 18 digs. Elizabeth Pennington had a team-high 15 kills and had a hitting percentage of .565. Joey Redwine had a match-high 28 assists for the Pioneers.
With the loss A&M-Commerce falls to (3-10, 1-3 LSC). Davault finished with 17 kills and had a hitting percentage of .341,
Courtney Tate had a team-high 24 assists, and
Ashley Mireles lead the team with 16 digs.
A&M-Commerce will try to get back on track when they travel to Kingsville for a match against Texas A&M-Kingsville on Friday, September 26.
