SAN ANGELO, TEXAS – The A&M-Commerce volleyball went into tonight's match hoping to get a huge road win. The Lions played Angelo State tough but fell in three sets (25-20 25-20,25-16).
The first set was a very close set that featured 10 ties and four lead changes.
Delanee Clark provided a spark for the Lions she scored 3 consecutive points including back-to-back kills that gave A&M-Commerce a 15-14 lead. The Rambelles went on a run of their own scoring six of the last eight points to end the set.
The Lions jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the second set the run was highlighted by two consecutive blocks for A&M-Commerce the first by Clark and
Courtney Tate and the second by Clark and
Amy Davault. Angelo State would answer with a five point run that made the score 16-11 in favor of the Rambelles. The Lions would not be able to recover dropping the second set.
Veronika Baric sparked a run for the Lions in the third set with back-to-back kills that gave A&M-Commerce an early 6-5 lead.
Taryn Driver provided another run for the Lions contributing four kills in six points which gave the Lions a 16-13 lead. Angelo State again would answer rattling off the next 12 points to win the set 25-16.
Angelo State improves to 11-2, 6-1 in the Lone Star Conference. The Rambelles were led by Mallory Blauser who had a match-high 15 kills. Alexa Johnson contributed 38 assists. Defensively Angelo State was led by Shelby Wilt who had a match-high 20 digs and Zoey Hanrahan who added three blocks.
With the loss the Lions fall to 3-12, 1-5 in the LSC. A&M-Commerce was led tonight by Davault who contributed another double-double with a team-high 11 kills and 18 digs. Driver added 10 kills for the Lions and Tate had a team-high 32 assists.
The Lions return home Friday, October 4 and Saturday, October 5 for two LSC matches. On Friday the Lions play Lone Star Conference leader West Texas A&M and on Saturday Eastern New Mexico comes to town.
