Lion's Soccer Prepares for Date with St. Mary's

A&M-Commerce Looks to Remain Undefeated

COMMERCE, TEXAS – The Lions soccer team (1-0) is preparing to host their second game of the season against the 1-1 St. Mary's University Rattlers (StMU) Tuesday. This follows A&M-Commerce's impressive 4-1 season-debut last week against the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs Mountain Lions.

Tuesday will mark the eighth time the schools have met in women's soccer, though the first time since 2007. The Lions hold the historical edge with a 5-2-1 all-time record against StMU. In their last meeting on September 21st, 2007 at San Antonio, the Rattlers earned the 2-1 win.

The Lions will once again rely on their forwards to give them an edge. Forwards Savannah Henderson and Jade Bell each scored a pair of goals last week against UCCS, and will look to mitigate any St. Mary's offense with scoring of their own.

This season, the Rattlers look to improve upon last year's sub-.500 campaign (8-9-1). They began 2014 with a close loss to Colorado State-Pueblo 4-3 before bouncing back to absolutely crush Ouachita Baptist 5-0. Through these two games, St. Mary's players Rachel Gurinsky (#12) and Kaitie Kasperitis (#20) have already accumulated an impressive 7 points each on the season, and will be the players for A&M-Commerce to watch out for.

The match, which promises to be a showcase of offense, will begin Tuesday, September 9th at 4 p.m. Tickets will be sold at the gate for $5.00.
