COMMERCE, TEXAS – The Lions soccer team (1-0) is preparing to host their second game of the season against the 1-1 St. Mary's University Rattlers (StMU) Tuesday. This follows A&M-Commerce's impressive 4-1 season-debut last week against the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs Mountain Lions.
Â
Tuesday will mark the eighth time the schools have met in women's soccer, though the first time since 2007. The Lions hold the historical edge with a 5-2-1 all-time record against StMU. In their last meeting on September 21st, 2007 at San Antonio, the Rattlers earned the 2-1 win.
Â
The Lions will once again rely on their forwards to give them an edge. Forwards
Savannah Henderson and
Jade Bell each scored a pair of goals last week against UCCS, and will look to mitigate any St. Mary's offense with scoring of their own.
Â
This season, the Rattlers look to improve upon last year's sub-.500 campaign (8-9-1). They began 2014 with a close loss to Colorado State-Pueblo 4-3 before bouncing back to absolutely crush Ouachita Baptist 5-0. Through these two games, St. Mary's players
Rachel Gurinsky (#12) and
Kaitie Kasperitis (#20) have already accumulated an impressive 7 points each on the season, and will be the players for A&M-Commerce to watch out for.
Â
The match, which promises to be a showcase of offense, will begin Tuesday, September 9th at 4 p.m. Tickets will be sold at the gate for $5.00.
