Lions and Pioneers combine for 49 shots, 19 saves in tie

DENTON, Texas – The A&M-Commerce soccer team played to their second draw of the week Thursday evening, tying 2-2 with Texas Woman's University in LSC play. The Lions now stand at 5-2-2 on the season, including a 1-0-2 mark in league action.

"Obviously, this was a very exciting game. I'm disappointed that we blew some early chances to take a lead, but I'm pleased that we came back to tie it twice. That showed a lot of character. We fought hard and had chances to win, but at the end of the day, I think this is a fair result."
 
Turning Point
- All four goals came in the second period, but none proved bigger than Savannah Grasser fourth of the season, as the 79th-minute score tied the game at 2-2.
 
Summary
- TWU's Megan Coppedge started the scoring with header 13 minutes into the second half, her first goal of the year.
- LSC leading scorer Vicky Back found her eighth of the season on a corner kick eight minutes later. Jade Bell was credited with the assist.
- Ashley Bishop's second goal of 2015 also came and corner and temporarily put the Pioneers in the lead.
- Less that six minutes later, Grasser found the equalizer, a low shot from ten yards out that kept the Lions' alive.
- Each goalie played a pivotal role, as well, as Courtnie Northern (8) and Ariana Morrison (11) combined for 19 saves.
 
Inside the Box Score
- The Lions still have not suffered a loss in LSC play this season. A
- Thursday's game marked the first time this season the Lions did not win when Back scored.
- The last time A&M-Commerce saw back-to-back ties came in September of 2006, when they tied East Central and St. Mary's. The Lions have never previously tied in consecutive conference games.  
- The teams combined for 49 shots, including 23 on goal.
 
On the Horizon
The Lions return to action on Tuesday, when they host Dallas Baptist at Lion Soccer Field. The non-conference matchup is slated for a 7 pm start.
