Phillips Delivers Golden Goal to Lift Lions Over No. 3 Rams, Again

San Angelo, Texas – Ashley Phillips knocked home a rebound to give the A&M-Commerce soccer team a 2-1 double overtime win on the road over No. 3 ranked Angelo State to complete the regular season sweep of the Rambelles.

"I am very proud of the effort. We just beat two regionally ranked opponents back-to-back on the road with no rest. Our legs were heavy in the second half and overtime, but we found a way to get the result. We finished with more points this year than last years, and I am very proud of that." – Lion head coach Neil Piper.
 
Turning Point
- Phillips ended the game with 106:59 on the clock after knocking a loose ball by the Rambelles keeper for game-winning golden goal.
 
Summary
- ASU opened the scoring when Haley Mendel found the back of the net midway through the second half.
- Vicky Back knotted the game at one when she scored in the 86th minute on a shot from 25 yards out that beat the ASU keeper to the far post.
- Phillips found pay dirt and ended the game following a loose ball on a corner kick. Phillips volleyed home the winner from inside the six-yard box.

- A&M-Commerce knocked off back-to-back regionally ranked teams in comeback fashion during the final regular season weekend after rallying to beat regionally ranked No. 7 ranked Midwestern State, 2-1, Saturday and the No. 1 regionally ranked Rambelles Sunday, 2-1.  The Lions entered weekend play ranked No. 6 in the South Central Region.
 
- The Lions improved to 18-9-4 overall against the Rambelles including five straight.
 
- Back scored her LSC-leading 13th goal of the season. She tops the LSC in points with 30 and points per game with 1.67 as well.
 
- Phillips' tallied her second goal and second game-winning goal of the season. 
 
Upcoming
- The Lions enter the Lone Star Conference Tournament as the No. 2 seed and will await the winner of No. 3 seed Texas Woman's and No. 6 Eastern New Mexico at 5 p.m. Friday, November 6 back in San Angleo.  The Pioneers and Greyhounds will meet Thursday, November 5 at 5 p.m.
