Turning PointAfter the second set, the Lions came out focus and determined to reestablish their dominance in the match. After two close sets with a two point margin, the Lions began to separate themselves winning the third set 25-18 and the fourth set 25-17.
HOW IT HAPPENEDSet 1The Lions started off strong jumping out to a 10-8 lead. They led most of the match including their largest lead of the match at 20-15 after a kill by
Summer Alford that forced a Mustang timeout. Following the timeout, the Mustangs went on a seven-point run to take a 22-20 lead.
Veronika Baric stikes back for the Lions with a strike of her own that helps the Lions regain the momentum. With the score tied at 24,
Courtney Tate sneaks in her second kill of the set and then joins the block party with
Sydney Reyes to win the set 26-24.
Set 2Already ahead 10-8, the Lions continued the route in the second set scoring six straight points.
Jaslyn Wacker was a sniper in this set including planting one in the defenders chest to give the Lions a 16-9 lead. As soon as it looked as though the set was getting out of hand, the Mustangs came back with a vengeance and eventually tied the set at 23. With the set tied again at 24, Meghan Bettis gets a kill to go ahead by one point. An attack error by the Lions gave the set to the Mustangs 26-24 to tie the match 1-1.
Set 3The Lions took a 9-3 lead to start the third set that eventually got as big as eight with a 14-6 lead. With the Lions leading 22-13, the Mustangs went on a four point run as they looked to crawl back into the set. Fortunately, a service error and ball handling error by the Mustangs broke their momentum as the Lions went on to win the third set 25-18.
Veronika Baric led the Lions this set with six kills.
Set 4The Lions continued their dominance in the fourth set as they took the lead 3-2 and never surrendered it again. Late in the set,
Jaslyn Wacker and
Summer Alford gave a crushing block to the Mustangs that sucked the air out of them.
Taryn Driver and
Jaslyn Wacker got two consecutive blocks to make the score 24-17. Finally, an attack error by Meghan Bettis sealed the game for the Lions as they won the set 25-17.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORELions had four aces in the first set alone and finished with 10 total aces—a match high for the Lions this season.
Courtney Tate recorded a career high of 20 digs.
Veronika Baric recorded a double-double with 19 kills and 13 digs and finished with a .319 hitting percentage.

What's Next The Lions faceoff against the Cameron Aggies Saturday, November 7 at 7 pm. When the two clubs first met this season, The Aggies were without a loss and swept the Lions 0-3 (14-25, 18-25, 20-25). After the match against the Lions, Cameron went on a six-match skid before bouncing back in a five set thriller against West Texas A&M. The Aggies are now 15-7 and sits at fifth place in the conference. The Lions are 24-25 overall when facing the Aggies head-to-head however, they do hold a12-11 record when playing in The Field House. The Lions are 5-3 in the last eight matches at home against the Aggies.
