Jones Floats in Game Winner as Lions Top Tigers 89-88 Monday

Commerce, Texas – Jeremy Jones droved from the right wing and lofted a floater over a defender and in with 1.3 seconds to play to keep A&M-Commerce unbeaten at home following Monday night's 89-88 win over East Central in The Field House in nonconference action.

Turning Point
- After eight ties and 13 lead changes, Jones caught a pass at the top of the key, waited for his defender to over pursue, then drove down the right wing.  His floater caught nothing but net marking the game's 14th lead change – an 89-88 lead for the Lions with 1.3 second left.  ECU got off a desperation heave at the buzzer that clanked off the backboard sealing the win for the Lions.

Highlights
- Bryant Crowder provided a spark off the bench of the Lions and led the team in scoring with 18 points. He narrowly missed a double-double with nine rebounds and had four blocked shots.

- Ronnie White followed with 14 points after going 7-of-8 from the field.

- Jones and De'Andre Carson provided the Lions with 12 points each, while Jones handed out seven assists.  Carson went 4-of-7 from the floor including 2-of-3 from behind the three-point arc.

- Anthony Adams, Craig Fofang and JR Owens narrowly missed double figures with nine points each.

- The Lions outshot the Tigers from the field at 55 percent to 45 percent. Both teams shot 46 percent from behind the three-point arc.  East Central held the higher percentage from the charity stripe with an 89 percent mark compared 50 percent for A&M-Commerce.

Quotable
"Even though Stirling Thomas scored 38 points for the ECU, I thought Anthony Adams guarded him really well. We feel that with Adams and Jeremy Jones we don't need to call timeouts late in the game." -- A&M-Commerce head coach Sam Walker.

Summary
1st Half
- A&M-Commerce looked in trouble early as ECU held the lead through the first 17 and a half minutes of action including a 12 point advantage, 22-10, with 12:52 left before the break.

- Trailing by six points, 35-29, with 5:36 showing, the Lions put together an 11-4 run over the next three minutes to take their first lead of the game, 40-39, after a Jones 3-pointer.  The two teams rotated the lead three more times over the final 2:30 before ECU took a 43-42 lead into the locker rooms.

2nd Half
- Neither team led by more than five points in the second half as the two teams traded had six ties and nine lead changes in the final 20 minutes alone.

- With the Lions leading by four points, 87-83, following an Owens triple from the left corner with 1:37 left to play, the Tigers answered with a three of their own then converted an A&M-Commerce turnover into a quick layup to take an 87-88 lead with 16 seconds left. The late-game drama by the Tigers left Jones and the Lions just enough time for the game winner with 1.3 seconds.
