Carson Delivers Game Winner in 89-87 Road Win for the Lions

Searcy, Ark. – After Harding converted a pair of free throws with six seconds left, Jeremy Jones dribbled down the right wing and flipped a shovel pass back De'Andre Carson who drilled the game-winning three-pointer to give A&M-Commerce (4-2) an 89-87 road win over Harding Monday night in the Rhodes-Reaves Field House in nonconference action.
 
Turning Point
- Carson's game winner proved to the be turning point after the game five ties and 10 lead changes over the 40 minutes of action. The Lions led by as many as 11 points, 56-45, with 16:22 on the clock in the second half and the Bisons led by as many as 10 points, 22-12, with 13:06 left in the first half.
 
Highlights
- Byrant Crowder led the Lions with 18 points after converting on eight of 10 field goal attempts. 
 
- Anthony Adams chipped in 14 points highlighted by a 6-of-8 performance from the free throw line.  Adams also handed out five assists.
 
- Jones narrowly missed a double-double finishing with 11 points and nine assists including the game-winning assist.
 
- Ronnie White was the final Lions in double figures scoring 10 points. White hauled down 10 rebounds for a double-double.
 
- Carson ended the game with nine points and none bigger than the game-winner three.  He was 3-of-6 from behind the arc in the game.
 
- The Lions went 46 percent from the floor in the game converting on 33 of their 71 field goal attempts.

Summary
1st Half
- Harding jumped out to an eight -point lead, 14-6, three and a half minutes into play.  The lead hit 10 points, 22-12, at the 13-minute mark, but the Lions answered with a 7-0 run to cut the margin down to three points, 22-19, following a pair of Jones free throws.
 
- The fought back and trimmed the margin down to 28-27 after back-to-back Crowder baskets with just under eight minutes remaining in the half. The Bisons answered with a 9-2 run following three straight triples to extend the lead back to eight points, 37-29, a minute and a half later.
 
- A&M-Commerce capped off the final six and a half minutes with a 17-8 run to take a 46-45 lead into the locker rooms. The Lions defense stifled the Bisons holding Harding scoreless for 4:05 during the stretch.
 
2nd Half
- A&M-Commerce sprinted out to an 11-point lead, 56-45, three and a half minutes into the second period.  Harding answered with 13-0 run over the next three minutes to take a 58-56 lead with 13:45 remaining.
 
- The two teams traded the lead with the Lions leading by as many as six points, 65-59, and the Bisons leading by as many as seven points twice. The last time came with 3:49 left to play when Harding found itself up 80-73.
 
- The Lions chipped away at the margin until a White layup with 23 seconds left gave the Lions an 86-85 lead.  Harding answered with two free throws with seconds left setting the game up for Carson's heroics in the waning seconds.
 
Inside the box score
- White turned in his third double-double of the season third in the last four games for the Lions.  The Lions have had four double-doubles on the season.
 
- Jones' nine assists matched his highest output of the season.  He previously had nine assists vs. Huston-Tillotson.

- A&M-Commerce returns to The Field House Thursday at 7 p.m. in the second game of the season series against Harding.
