Commerce, Texas –
Kory Chapman, a four-year NFL veteran and two-time Super Bowl champion, has been appointed to the A&M-Commerce coaching staff from the NFLPA marking the second straight season the Lions were awarded an NFLPA Coaching Internship.
In 2014, the Lions had
Montiese Culton join the staff as the SAMs coach. He flipped over the to offensive side of the ball and will be coaching wide receivers, his former NFL position, in 2015.
"I want to thank the NFLPA for affording me the opportunity to continue my coaching career," Chapman said. "I'm very thankful to be a Lion and to be on Coach (Colby) Carthel's staff. (Offensive Coordinator) Coach (Matt) Storm has taught me a lot and has been great to work with."
Chapman comes to the Lions after spending time with arguably two of the best coach-quarterback duos in the NFL, Tom Brady-Bill Belichick and Peyton Manning-Tony Dungy. Chapman was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by Baltimore and went through the 2005 training camp with the Ravens before being released. He immediately caught on with the New England Patriots. Chapman picked up his first Super Bowl ring that season when the Patriots defeated the Eagles claiming the Super Bowl XXXIX title.
Chapman spent part of the 2005 season with the Patriots before being released and signing with the Indianapolis Colts midway through the 2005 season to the 2007 season. His final year with the Colts saw Chapman claim his second ring when the Colts topped the Bears in Super Bowl XLI.
Chapman stuck on for one more season in the NFL with the 2007 Cleveland Browns. He took the 2008 season off hoping to continue his NFL playing career, but free agent opportunities dried up. Chapman decided to stay in the game and pursue coaching.
He went back to his alma mater, Jacksonville State, in 2010 to finish his undergraduate degree and coach the team's running backs. The Gamecocks opened the season with a 49-48 win over Ole Miss en route to a 9-3 season that ended in the first round of the NCAA FCS Playoffs.
Chapman then spent a year at North Panola High School in Mississippi before spending two seasons at the University of Pikeville, an NAIA school in the Mid-South Conference.
