Turning PointAlthough the result ended in a sweep for the Lions, the match was very tight in each set. The turning point for the match came when junior Mallory Blauser crushed the volleyball for a kill in the third set to make the score 25-24 giving the Belles the lead. Blauser followed up with another kill to put the Lions away.
HOW IT HAPPENEDSet 1The first set started tight as the Lions and the Belles went point for point until around the 11-point mark. The Belles took a three point lead and forced a Lions timeout after two kills by Abbie Lynn and an attack error by the Lions making the score 14-11. The Lions did not allow the set get away from them and steal the momentum by taking a 21-19 lead. However, Angelo State fires back and take the lead 23-21 following an error by the Lions and two kills by Angelo. In a hard fought set, the Belles take the win 26-24.
Set 2The second set started off similar to the first as the two teams traded points continuously. Later in the set when the Lions were down 20-17, the Belles continued to push on the gas and never lost the lead. The Belles beat the Lions in the second set 25-23. Brianna Sotello had a big set for the Belles with five kills in this set.
Set 3Taryn Driver helped set the tone for the Lions being involved in four of the Lions first six points as the Lions pounced to a 6-3 lead early. The Belles cut into the lead and eventually gained the lead. This set alone had 14 ties and the battle for the last two points were vicious. The Belles took the set and match after back-to-back kills from Mallory Blauser.
