GUNNISON, Colo. – The A&M-Commerce soccer team opened their season with a victory on Thursday evening, defeating Western State (Colorado) by a tally of 1-0.

Savannah Grasser in the 75th minute, and the Lions' 2014 scoring leader picked up where she left off a season ago.
Summary- Though senior goalkeeper
Courtnie Northern saw the Mountaineers take six shots, she only needed three saves to record her first shutout of the year. The Lions took 12 shots of their own, including 11 on goal.
Inside the Box Score- The Lions have opened the season in the state of Colorado three years in a row, winning the last two contests. Thursday marked the first ever meeting between the two teams, and Grasser has scored the first goal of the season for the second straight year.
A&M-Commerce (1-0) will return to action on Saturday, when they conclude their road trip with a contest against UC-Colorado Springs.
