Commerce, Texas – A&M-Commerce is approaching a busy week having three games in four days, starting off against Cameron on Wednesday, January 13 in Aggie Gym at 5:30 pm.
The 7-6 Lions look to jump back into the winning column after an impressive comeback went south late in the fourth quarter at Angelo State, ending a three-game winning streak. Since conference play has started, the Lions lead the Lone Star Conference in scoring averaging 81.5 points per game. In that same time frame, the Lions also lead the conference in offensive rebounds and steals per game. A&M-Commerce has seemed to find a better stroke as they are ranked second in the conference in field goal percentage (42.2%), free throw percentage (80%), and are also outscoring opponents by ten points. This season as a whole, the Lions have crawled into the top three in the conference dropping 70.5 points per game but unfortunately hold a 2-5 record on the road.
Amari Jones,
Gabby Scott, and
Shomari Harris each average nine points per game followed by
Princess Davis,
Khala Riley, and
Artaejah Gay each chip in eight points per game.
The Cameron Aggies are 8-5 this season, and have a Lone Star Conference record of 2-2. The two losses for the Aggies come at the hands of West Texas A&M including their last game, where the Lady Buffs took flight in the second half to win the game 76-52. Cameron's two conference wins were against Tarleton State (83-71), and Eastern New Mexico (82-73). Cameron scores 68.8 points per game this season and shoots 40 percent from the floor, as well as shooting roughly 37 percent from the three-point line, leading the Lone Star Conference. The Aggies outscores their opponents in the sandwich quarters by 65 points but struggle in the beginning as well as finishing being outscored by their opponents by 38 points. Dayla Threatt leads the team averaging 12.7 points per game and 5.9 rebounds per game. Brandi Leal and Charr Montgomery each add another 10 points per game each. Head coach Tom Webb enters his eighth season at the helm, compiling an 84-117 record during his tenure at Cameron.
When playing in Lawton, Oklahoma, the Aggies have been on the better end of the equation, holding a 7-13 record and winning five of the last six meetings in Aggie Gym. However, the Lions hold a slight 22-21 edge over the Aggies all-time in head-to-head matchups, having won four out of the last six meetings including last season's 80-65 win in the Lone Star Conference tournament in Allen, Texas.
