Commerce, Texas – The Lions jump start the new year in Lone Star Conference action as they take on Texas A&M-Kingsville Wednesday, January 6 inside of The Field House at 5:30 pm.

The Lions enter into Lone Star Conference competition with a 6-5 record and is on a two-game winning streak after defeating Henderson State at home 73-61. When at home, the Lions score well averaging 82 points per game and are 3-1 at The Field House. As far as for the entire season, the Lions are ranked fourth in the conference scoring 68.5 points per game. A&M-Commerce eats on the glass as they are second in the Lone Star Conference in defensive rebounding with 29.3 boards per game, and fourth on the offensive end, recording 14.1 rebounds per game. The Lions have been outrebounded once this season in their first 11 games. Both
Amari Jones, and Audrissa Harrison sit in the top ten of all Lone Star Conference players in total rebounds and rebounds per game. The Lions also share the ball and are towards the top of the conference with their 11.64 assists per game.
Shomari Harris and
Princess Davis each rest inside of the top ten for the conference in assists per game. Finally, the Lions display great hands on defense as they sit just under ten steals per game.
Amari Jones, and
Shomari Harris are both in the top ten of the Lone Star Conference in steals.
Shomari Harris leads the Lions in scoring with 9.7 points per game, and assists with 38 total. Harris is second on the team with 18 steals, and is third in rebounding with 4.4 boards per game.
Amari Jones is the clean up lady as she leads the entire Lone Star Conference with 9.6 rebounds per game. Jones also is a defensive machine as she leads the way with 19 total steals, and 15 total blocks. Jones adds in another 9.2 points each game. Both
Gabby Scott and
Khala Riley pay their dues each by bringing in another 9 points per game.
Princess Davis chips in a solid 8.2 points per contest but is a great distributor tallying 30 assists this season. Last but not least, Audrissa Harrison's 6.1 rebounds per game are very valuable to the Lions, especially when coming from off of the bench. Harrison also adds five points per game.

Texas A&M-Kingsville comes to The Field House on a four-game losing streak after starting the season 5-1. The Javalinas has played some of their basketball this season on the road, posting a 2-2 record in opposing gyms, and a 2-0 record at neutral locations. The Javalinas average 58.3 points per game and shoots 35 percent from the field, and 26.4 percent from the three-point line. The Javalinas are ranked eighth out of the nine teams in the Lone Star Conference in each of the previous listed categories. Texas A&M-Kingsville does shoot decently at the stripe however, with a team percentage of 68.8 at the free throw line. They also do a good job on the boards ranking fifth in the Lone Star Conference pulling down 41 rebounds per game. The Javalinas do struggle when it comes to taking care of the ball this season averaging roughly 18 turnovers per game. Kaylin Roher is the leader for the Javalinas as she averages a team high of 11.6 points per game, 17 total steals, and is third on the team with 16 total assists. Roher is one of three players who have started all ten games this season for the Javalinas. Joslyn Smith contributes quality minutes off of the bench for the Javalinas as she leads the team in rebounding with 5.8 boards per game. Smith is also second on the team in steals notching a total of 13 picked pockets and brings 5.9 points to the table each game. Wade Scott is in his second season as the head coach for the Javalinas and is coming off of a dreadful 2014-15 season where his team went 0-26.Â

The Lions lead in head-to-head matchups versus Texas A&M-Kingsville 33-29 as they enter into battle for the 63rd time. The Lions swept the Javalinas last season in their two conference scheduled games with a scoring margin of 20 points. Â
