Bunselmeyer's early goal holds up as No. 11 Lions pick up 1-0 shutout over No. 24 Midwestern State

WICHITA FALLS - The 11th-ranked Texas A&M-Commerce soccer team made an early goal hold up, earning a 1-0 shutout victory over 24th-ranked Midwestern State University on Sunday afternoon.

With the win, the Lions are once again tied at the top of the Lone Star Conference standings with nine points. A&M-Commerce is 6-3-0 overall and 3-1-0 in LSC action, while MSU is now 6-2-2 overall and 3-1-0 in the league.

The Lions are on the road for their next two matches, traveling to Angelo State on Friday and UT Permian Basin next Sunday.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Delaney Bunselmeyer put away a shot off of a rebound with just 10:30 of game action gone to score her second goal of the season. The would be the only goal of the match.
- This is A&M-Commerce's fourth win by shutout this season, all in the last five matches. Goalkeeper Caitlin Duty made two saves in the match.
- The Lions outshot the Mustangs 17-7 in the match. Seven of those shots were on goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lions exerted pressure on the Mustang goal early, launching five shots in the first 10 and a half minutes. A shot by Michelle Kotlik was blocked with the ball coming to the foot of Bunselmeyer, who smashed it home for her second goal of the season.

Duty made one save of an MSU shot in the first minute of the match, then didn't have to make a save the rest of the opening half. The Mustangs had three corner kicks in the half but managed only one shot, which was blocked.

The Lions saw a chance to extend their lead come excruciatingly close in the 68th minute, as a Kasey Sorbers shot hit the crossbar and Savannah Grasser's chance at the rebound went wide.

The A&M-Commerce kept the Mustangs locked down, as the hosts took four shots in the half, with Duty making a save on the only shot on target.
