No. 21 Lions tripped up in overtime at West Texas A&M, 2-1

CANYON - After coming back late to force overtime, the No. 21 Texas A&M University-Commerce soccer team dropped a tough 2-1 defeat to West Texas A&M at The Pitch on Friday night.

A&M-Commerce falls to 11-4 on the season with the loss and 7-2 in Lone Star Conference action. The Lions and Lady Buffs have split their regular season series and are now tied atop the LSC standings with 21 points and three games to play. A&M-Commerce plays at Eastern New Mexico at 1 p.m. Central on Sunday for its next action.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Lions were limited offensively, putting two shots on goal through the course of the match. WT had seven shots on goal in the match.
- Michelle Kotlik was the lone goal scorer for the Lions, heading in a goal off of a Sophie Haywood corner kick with 1:24 remaining in regulation to tie the game and force overtime.
- Caitlin Duty made five saves in the match.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lady Buffs took the first nine shots of the match, but the Lions had the most dangerous chance of the first half. Ashley Phillips headed a shot off the crossbar in the 28th minute. Haywood had a header saved in the 43rd minute and the match went into halftime scoreless.

Neither side was able to gather much offensive momentum in the second half, but A&M-Commerce committed a foul about 30 yards from the goal in the 87th minute. WT's Karyn Forbes launched a free kick into the net to give the hosts the late lead.

The Lions didn't give up despite the late deficit, with Kotlik heading in her second goal of the season off of Haywood's corner kick in the 89th minute to force the extra time.

WT was able to get downfield early in the overtime period and earn two corner kicks. Khadisha Debesette headed in the game winner across the grain of the play in the 94th minute to give the hosts the win and tie the conference standings at the top.
