The Lions Look to Avenge Early Loss to Angelo State

Commerce, Texas – The hot 14-10 Lions look to keep the good times rolling when they face a talented Angelo State basketball club on Saturday, February 13 at 4 pm.
 
A&M-Commerce is on a four-game winning streak and look to win their fifth straight game in conference play for the first time since the eminent 2008-09 season. The Lions have been playing well in conference as of late and are now two games over .500 in the Lone Star Conference standings and post a 4-1 record at home. The Lions 63-52 win against Texas A&M-Kingsville on Wednesday, February 10 completed their third season series sweep (Cameron, Midwestern State, and Texas A&M-Kingsville). This season, the Lions average 71.2 points per game shooting 40 percent from the floor, 30 percent from three-point range, and 70 percent from the free throw line. When speaking on the entire season, Artaejah Gay and Shomari Harris leads the Lions in scoring with ten points per game each. These two stay on the list, but add Princess Davis when taking into account conference games only. Amari Jones, and Audrisa Harrison sit in the top ten of the conference in rebounds per game while Shomari Harris is in the top five of Lone Star Conference players in assists per game. 
 
The Belles are 15-6 this season and are 8-3 in Lone Star Conference play. Angelo State was on a five-game winning streak until Tarleton State came into the Junell Center and defeated the Belles 65-50, giving Angelo State their second loss at home this season. Although swept by Tarleton State, the Belles have been strong all season and have swept the nationally ranked West Texas A&M Lady Buffs. Angelo State ranks first in the Lone Star Conference in offensive scoring with an average of 81.2 points per game in all games, and 77.6 points per game in Lone Star Conference games. In those Lone Star Conference games, the Belles shoot 43.5 percent from the floor, and are tied with the Lions at 71.1 percent from the stripe. Taylor Dorsey leads the entire conference in scoring this season with 17 points per game while Jasmine Prophet and Brea Mitchell both land in the top ten in scoring, averaging 12.1 points and 11.9 points respectively. Dorsey takes over most of the other categories as she leads the Belles with six rebounds per game, four assists per game, and 1.1 steals per game.
 
Overall, the Lions are 24-43 against Angelo State but play well in The Field House with a record just below .500 at 12-13. In the first meeting this season between the two programs, the Lions loss 82-78 although trailing by 18 points in the third quarter. In the last eight games in Commerce, Texas, the record is tied at 4-4.
