Commerce, Texas – The Lions close out the regular season at home on Saturday, February 27 against Tarleton State at 4 pm.

A&M-Commerce gets back in the winning column with a 69-59 win at home over Eastern New Mexico last weekend. The Lions are third in the Lone Star Conference in scoring offense in both the overall season (70.3 points per game) and in conference play (68.8 points per game). Defense has been the Lions backbone as Lone Star Conference opponents shoot a league worse of 27.7 percent from three-point range against the Lions this season. In addition to good perimeter defense, the Lions rank second in the conference with 29.1 defensive rebounds per game in conference play. The Lions are towards the middle of the pack ranking fifth in the conference with 8.40 steals per game and 2.93 blocks per game. The Lions have three players scoring in double figures in conference play consisting of
Artaejah Gay (11.2 points per game),
Shomari Harris (10.6 points per game), and
Princess Davis (10.3 points per game). Harris leads the Lions with 97 total assists and Davis leads the team with 43 steals this season.
Amari Jones is second in the entire Lone Star Conference averaging 7.7 rebounds per game.

The TexAnns come into The Field House on a seven-game winning streak. They have swept the season series with Angelo State, split with West Texas A&M, but lost to Texas Woman's twice this season. In conference play, the TexAnns average 66.4 points per game but has the second best scoring defense, holding opponents to 60.7 points per game. Tarleton State is second in the conference with a 71.3 free throw line percentage, 34.8 three-point field goal percentage, and third with a 41.2 field goal percentage from the floor, all in conference play. The TexAnns are last in conference play with 12.1 offensive rebounds per game and are sixth with 24.2 defensive rebounds per game. This season, Bailey Wipff is the third highest scorer in the league with 13.7 points per game and has the third highest three-point field goal percentage in the conference at 42.1 percent. She also leads the team with 39 total steals this season. Ikpeaku Iwobi averages 9.8 points per game and leads the TexAnns with 7.6 rebounds per game, totaling 189 boards this season. Iwobi is ranked third in the Lone Star Conference in both categories.

The Lions are 19-31 overall against the TexAnns but are 11-9 at home. Although the Lions are on a two-game losing streak against Tarleton State, they are also on a two-game winning streak when playing the TexAnns in The Field House. In the first meeting this season,
Shomari Harris had a game high of 19 points but was not enough to over come the TexAnns who won 71-64 in Wisdom Gym. Ikpeaku Iwobi had 18 points for the TexAnns and Bailey Wipff followed with 17 points shooting 3-of-4 from beyond the arc.
