COMMERCE – The No. 18 Texas A&M University-Commerce soccer team scored three second half goals to run away from the Harding Lady Bisons, 3-0, at Lion Soccer Field on Friday night.
The win is the Lions' first shutout of the season.
The Lions move to 3-2-0 on the year, while Harding falls to 3-2-0 on the season. A&M-Commerce is next in action at 7 p.m. on Friday, September 23, when the Lions host Eastern New Mexico for the Lone Star Conference opener.
After weather temporarily postponed kickoff, the teams engaged in an end-to-end match, with the Lions launching 11 shots and the Lady Bisons taking seven in the first half. Lion goalkeeper
Caitlin Duty made four saves in the half.
The Lions broke the scoreless draw in the 49th minute when
Delaney Bunselmeyer scored her first goal of the season, heading the ball in off of the assist of
Sophie Haywood.
Less than two minutes later, A&M-Commerce doubled its lead when
Anitra Wright launched a shot from outside the penalty area into the upper 90 at the back post to make it a 2-0 Lion lead.
The result was sealed in the 84th minute, when a Lion was fouled in the box and
Savannah Grasser scored from the penalty spot. The goal was the 34th career marker for the senior.
