No. 11 Lions tripped up at Texas Woman's

DENTON – The No. 11 Texas A&M University-Commerce soccer team was tripped up by Texas Woman's University on Wednesday night by a score of 3-0.
 
The Lions saw their four-match winning streak snapped and fall to 5-3-0 on the season and 2-1-0 in the Lone Star Conference. TWU is now 5-3-0 overall and 1-2 in LSC action. 

A&M-Commerce is next in action on Sunday afternoon in Wichita Falls against No. 24 Midwestern State.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Lions outshot the Pioneers 19-13 on the night with eight shots on goal.
- Both teams had pressure on the opponent's goal, taking seven corner kicks apiece.
- Savannah Grasser and Vicky Back each took five shots for the Lions.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lions took seven of the match's first eight shots, but were turned away on three saves by TWU goalkeeper Samantha Jimenez. The Pioneers opened the scoring in the 23rd minute when Maddi Nolton scored from a free kick.
 
A&M-Commerce outshot the hosts 11-7 in the opening half, but Jimenez made five saves.
 
TWU extended its lead in the 74th minute on a header by Lucero Chavez off of a Nolton assist.
 
Despite pressure on the Pioneers' defense all night, the Lions could only get one shot on goal in the first half hour of the second half.  The Pioneers sealed the result on a penalty kick by Chelsea Martin in the 89th minute.
 
A&M-Commerce outshot TWU 8-6 in the second half.
