The Lions are coming off 2-1 win over Texas Woman's University on Wednesday. Head coach Neil Piper was pleased with the way his team started the game and how they played throughout.

"It was a hard-fought win," Piper said. "It was a much-needed win for us. It was a good game. Luckily we scored early and that changed the game a little bit. Once we got that second goal, we felt pretty comfortable."

The Lions were able to score a quick goal in the game to get things started. Piper liked the execution and felt his team took advantages of their scoring opportunities and shut down TWU's chances when they presented themselves.

"We got an early corner kick and it was well taken," Piper said. "It was a nice goal. And after that, we kept the pressure on them. I felt like in the first half, each team had a couple of good chances to score. We just happened to take advantage of our opportunities. I felt like the second half, we had it under control. I didn't feel like they would score on us. But they got that penalty kick. It was a good performance. Now we have to move forward."

The Lions now face MSU Texas. The Mustangs swept last season's series. Piper is looking forward to what always seems to be a good and close match.

"Midwestern is similar to us this year," he said. "They have good players. They have just had some bad results. And they have had some injuries as well. They are a dangerous team. Every game is close. Last year, our game up there didn't go so well. It might have been the game that sealed our fate as far as the NCAA's went. We are looking forward to getting some revenge."

After the MSU Texas match, the team will have reached the midway mark of the season. Piper sees his team grouped with a lot of others who are fighting to get ahead in the conference standings.

"Really, us, Angelo, Midwestern, Texas Woman's, we are all in the same kind of mix," Piper said. "We are all dealing with the same stuff. These are just hard-fought, who wants it more type of games. Nothing more than that."
