The Lions are coming off of a 2-1 home win over UT Tyler last week. Head coach Neil Piper was pleased with the team's performance overall, but would like to see better execution in future matches in some areas.

"That's probably one of the best matches we have played as far as us dictating our style of play," he said. "We had loads of corners in the match. We just couldn't score on those corners. If we could have, it would have been a much easier game for us. But we played well, getting the win. We are going to have to execute better if we want to beat some of the top teams in the conference."

Reaching the midway point of the season, Piper sees a team that is still trying to find its way. With so many new and young players, he knows the team is still learning to play together and learning what it takes to compete in a tough conference.

"I still don't know where we are at," he said. "We have such a young team and still have our ups and downs. Hopefully we get it sorted out soon. I feel like we have a good system in place, we just have to execute better."

The team will now face a tough challenge at home, facing Texas Woman's and DBU. The Pioneers were receiving votes in the top 25 rankings last week, while DBU is ranked No. 11 in the national rankings. Piper knows it will take a complete effort from the team in order to compete.

"These are probably going to be two of the best teams we play all season," he said. "I'm hoping our team is ready for that. The returners understand it but we have so many new players, I don't know if they realize the level that Texas Woman's and DBU play at. We are at home and will hopefully have some good crowds. We will try and dictate our style of play and see what happens."
