DUNCAN, Okla. – The Texas A&M University-Commerce men's golf team moved up three spots in the team standings to finish in seventh place at the Jerry Hrncair Invitational to wrap up the fall portion of the Lions' season.
The Lions shot an 8-over par 296 to complete the tournament with a 36-hole total of 598 (302-296, +22) and tie with conference foe Texas A&M International in seventh place.
"Our team did a great job making a comeback after a rough start yesterday," said assistant coach
Amy Ruengmateekhun. "The course set up was challenging, which made our guys really have to focus on their course management. Our goal today was to improve from yesterday and move a couple spots up in the field. We have a young and fairly new team this year and I am excited to see our guys progress this off-season and get ready to win some tournaments in the spring."
Alex Welch (League City – Clear Springs) had two eagles in the tournament, including a hole-in-one on hole No. 4, acing the 198-yard hole with a seven iron. He tied for 18
th place on the individual leaderboard at 4-over par 148 (75-73).
"I happened to witness Alex's hole-in-one today, and it was one of the greatest I've ever seen. He did a great job, finishing 3-under in his last 4 holes," Ruengmateekhun said.
Also tied with Welch was freshman
Chance Mulligan (Dallas – Bishop Dunne), who shot even par Tuesday to finish at 148 (+4, 76-72). Mulligan had 26 pars over the course of his 36 holes. "Chance came in today with 16 pars, a bogey, and a birdie. It's exciting to see our freshmen step up to the plate this fall," Ruengmateekhun noted.
Simon Haas (Lorch, Germany) placed 32
nd with a 6-over par 150, shooting 75 in each of the two rounds.
Zach Burch (Lubbock – Cooper) had matching rounds of 76 to finish in 44
