The Lions are coming off of a 4-1 week. After losing the first game of the week, head coach Richie Bruister felt his team regrouped and made the necessary tweaks to finish the week the right way.

"Anytime you go 4-1, it's a good week," he said. "We had a little setback at the beginning of the week. We learned some things about our team. After that, we made some adjustments and the rest of the week was good for us."

The Lions had several different players step into the lineup last week and find success. Bruister likes the depth his team has and was happy to see success from multiple players stepping in.

"That's one of our philosophies," he said. "We tell our kids we have a lot of depth and they have to be ready when the opportunity comes. Those kids were and made the most of it. I love that about our game. In our sport, people get opportunities and I love when they make the most of it."

The Lions begin the week against St. Edward's. The Lions swept the season series against SEU last year, winning both in Commerce and in Austin. Bruister sees an improved Hilltopper club coming in and knows his team will need to be ready.

"They are a solid team," he said. "They are better than they have been in the past. They are playing well. We have to continue to get better. We have some things we are working on. I hope to see that and for people to keep getting better as we go through practice and carry that into the games on Wednesday."

The Lions will then head out on the road as they face conference rival A&M-Kingsville. The Javelinas currently hold a record identical to the Lions (16-2) and are coming off of a 2-1 week against nationally-ranked Tarleton. Bruister expects a good battle between the two squads and knows it will be no easy task to be successful in Kingsville.

"You have to show up and do your thing one pitch at a time," he said. "We are looking forward to it. Our girls look forward to those big matchups. It is going to be a challenge. Kingsville is a tough place to play. They have a great ball club this year. We are going to have to do all the little things right if we want to win. That's what we've been working on. If you don't do that, you'll get beat. We are working on that and hopefully we will go down there and do the little things right."
