FRISCO – Five East Texas A&M University softball players have earned Academic All-Southland Conference honors on Thursday afternoon.
Gracie Alejo (Waco – Connally),
Charli Anger (Lubbock – Cooper),
KK Cosek (Helendale, Calif.),
Aaliyah Wilcox (Covington, Ga.), and
Tatum Wright (Frisco – Centennial) are the five honorees for the Lions.
To be eligible for all-academic distinction, an athlete must hold a minimum 3.25 cumulative grade point average through the semester prior to the sport's championship, completed at least one full academic semester at the nominating school prior to the current season, and participated in at least 50 percent of the team's competitions during the most recently completed season. Student-Athlete of the Year nominees must have held at least a 3.50 GPA and have completed at least one semester of athletic competition at the nominating school, including the current season.
Alejo was also named to the Academic All-District team, as selected by the Collegiate Sports Communicators last month. She is a criminal justice major, while being named to the dean's list, SLC Commissioner's Honor Roll, and finishing the season being fourth in the country in caught stealing by.
Anger is a kinesiology & sports studies major and was selected to CSC Academic All-District as well. She is a president's list honoree, SLC Commissioner's Honor Roll, and was fourth on the team in batting average and RBIs last season, having appeared in 50 games.
Cosek ended her senior season being second on the team in batting average, having appeared in every game. She received bachelor's degree in business administration last month, while being named to the dean's list and SLC Commissioner's Honor Roll.
Wilcox is a biological sciences major, having also being named to CSC Academic All-District and was second on the team in home runs and RBIs, playing 51 games.
Wright is a two-time all-Southland honoree as well as a two-time CSC Academic All-District selection. She led the team in batting average, RBIs, and home runs last season, while being named to the dean's list and SLC Commissioner's Honor Roll. She received her bachelor's degree in biological sciences following the spring semester.
