The Lions are coming off a series sweep against Eastern New Mexico. The Lions put their previous series behind them and performed well. Head coach Richie Bruister was proud of his team for their performance.

"They did what I knew they were going to do," he said. "I'm proud of how the team responded. They had a great week of practice. Kids were ready to get back on the field and do what they can do. And they certainly did that last weekend."

The Lions outscored ENMU 27-1 in the series. Bruister liked the way his bats were working.

"They got good pitches and they hit them hard," he said. "That's what we work hard on during the week in practice and we had some opportunities and made the most of them."

The Lions also had two shutout performances and allowed just one run over the three games. Bruister praised his pitchers and the defense for executing well.

"Otto set the tone and went out there and did her thing," he said. "Every time she takes the circle, she gives us a chance to win. She was doing her thing. And it was great to get Hebler out there too and get her some innings. She looked good. We were excited to see her get some good production out there."

The Lions will now head out on the road to face West Texas A&M. The Lady Buffs are ranked No. 8 in the nation right now. Bruister looks forward to two nationally-ranked teams doing battle.

"It's two heavyweights going at it," he said. "That's the Lone Star Conference at its finest. I love the atmosphere they have out there. They have fans that will give us a hard time. They will holler at the players and at me as the coach. That's fun. It is a great atmosphere to go out and play in. We are looking forward to it. We have to do our thing. We have to play our game and if we do that, we will have a chance to win some ball games."

After their series against No. 8 WT, the Lions will travel to Las Vegas, N.M. to face New Mexico Highlands on Monday.
