The Lions are coming off of an undefeated home stand, sweeping Western New Mexico. The Lions scored 49 runs over the course of the three games, which head coach
Richie Bruister was pleased to see.
"I'm happy with the way we came out and hit the ball," Bruister said. "We got some good pitches and made the most of what we got. Then the defense carried us through. Otto came in in relief in a couple games and did a good job for us, and gave us a great start as well."
The Lions now get ready to host Rogers State. The Hillcats are currently in second place in the Heartland Conference. Bruister knows it will be a quality series.
"They are a great team," he said of RSU. "They have a really good pitcher and have a good offense. They are a very solid team coming in. It is a big in-region matchup for us. We have to show up and play our game and represent the Lone Star Conference."
The Lions will then face Angelo State on the road beginning Friday. The Rambelles knocked the Lions out of the Super Regionals last season. While ASU's record is not what it was a season ago, Bruister knows his team will face a tough challenge, especially playing in San Angelo.
"They are still a great ball club," he said. "The difference between this year and last year is they don't have the stellar pitching they had. But they still have quality pitching. We are going to have to show up and do our job. I'm certainly looking forward to going down there this year. Our team is excited to get back down there. We left some things down there last year and the plan is to go back and redeem ourselves."
Entering the home stretch of the regular season, Bruister likes where his team is. He has seen improvement over the last few weeks and knows that it needs to continue if the team wants to accomplish its goals.
"We have seen great things from this team and that's what you want," he said. "But we also have seen some things we want to work on. We still are working on some things. But I'm really excited as far as where we are. I'm excited with what I've seen in our last 10 ball games. I'm looking forward to continuing building upon what we've done, both from an offensive standpoint and a defensive standpoint. We are looking really good. I'm looking forward to this week."
