Lion offense nets three goals, defense shuts out East Central on the road

ADA, Okla.– The Texas A&M University-Commerce soccer team defeated East Central 3-0 on Saturday afternoon. Behind two goals from Tehillah Ndhlovu, the Lions cruised to their third win of the season.
 
The win brings the Lions to 3-1-1 on the year, while the Tigers fall to 2-4-0 on the year.
 
The Lions return home on Thursday to play their first game of the Lone Star Conference season. The Lions will host Lubbock Christian at 7 p.m. at the Lion Soccer Field. HEAD COACH NEIL PIPER AFTER THE GAME
- On getting the win: "It was another good win on the road. We had some contributions from some  different players today and that really helped."
- On the team taking over the second half: "The game was stale until we scored a fortunate goal late in the half. That changed the march and we took more control of the second half."
- On Welch's impact in the midfield: "Cora Welch was great in the midfield and won the game for us in there."
- On the team defense: "Jen Peters and the defense was solid as usual. They didn't allow too many opportunities for East Central.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Tehillah Ndhlovu (York, England) scored the first two goals of her collegiate career. She scored goals in the 39th and 70th minutes.
- Kasey Sorbers (Rowlett - Sachse) scored on a header goal off of a corner kick in the 79th minute.
- Leslie Campuzano (Garland – Lakeview Centennial) assisted on the first goal by Ndhlovu and on the corner kick goal by Sorbers. She also had a shot on goal.
- Jen Peters (Allen) earns her fourth shutout of the season, saving all five ECU shots on goal.
- Rylie Robertson (Rockwall) also had a shot on goal.
- The Lions outshot the Tigers 19-10 in the match, including 9-2 in the second half.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Peters made a save in the first minute as ECU was quick on the attack. Peters also made saves in the fifth and 13th minutes.
 
The Lions put their first shot on goal in the 15th minute, as Robertson found some space. Peters made another save in the 16th minute.
 
Campuzano put a shot on goal in the 27th minute as the Lions began their attack. Ndhlovu came in in the 34th minute and made an immediate impact, netting a goal in the 39th minute, on an assist from Campuzano. The Lions took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
 
The Lions began to dominate the ball in the second half, earning several corner kicks. Ndhlovu then scored her second goal in the 70th minute, doubling the Lion lead. Sorbers added a goal off of a corner kick from Campuzano in the 79th minute and the Lions left with the 3-0 win.
