Women’s Soccer welcomes top-ranked DBU into the Lions’ den for Senior Day

COMMERCE – The A&M-Commerce Lions have a quick turnaround from an overtime game on Friday to a date with the top team in the country on Sunday, No. 1 Dallas Baptist.  Seniors will be honored on the final home game of the season.

The Lions:
A&M-Commerce is led by head coach Nail Piper, who will coach the Lions for the 23rd season this spring. He has a 259-144-38 record. He has moved up to 15th among active Division II coaches and 24th in Division II all-time in coaching victories.
 
The Lions have six points in LSC play and are facing two matches in four days to close the regular season. The game on Sunday is the opportunity to recognize seniors Madison Zick (Arlington), Katie Givens (Rockwall), and Izzy Ward (McKinney - Boyd).
 
A&M-Commerce ranks second in the LSC in scoring at 3.0 goals per game, and the Lions' 9.3 shots on goal per game rank third in the league. The Lions are also second in the conference in assists with 2.7 per game.
 
Campuzano leads the LSC with 8.0 shots per game and 4.0 points per contest – comprised of four goals, four assists and 12 total points through three matches.
 
Goalkeepers Jen Peters (Allen) and Lauren Banning (Pflugerville) split time in goal, but it is Banning who has taken the decisions with a 2-1 record and leads with 8 of the 15 saves this season. She also has 1.8 goals against average.

On the opponent…
Dallas Baptist is sitting atop the LSC standings and ranks as the No. 1 team in the entire country. They average 3.6 goals per game, good for second best in the country and tops in the LSC. Not only does DBU score, but they give up a mere .78 goals per game, resulting in a margin of +2.78 per match.
 
The Patriots enter the game as the highest scoring team in the conference and earn 9.9 each time out on the pitch this season.
 
As a goalkeeping unit, the Patriots rack up saves at a 81.6-percent rate that is tops in the conference. 27 of the 31 saves as well as 688-plus minutes in goal belong to Adrianna Schroeder.
 
Schroeder and Hailey Brown split time in goal for DBU, but it is Schroder who has been the keeper of record more times than not as she holds a 6-0-1 record to this point in the season and a save percentage of 79.4. She owns 27 of the 31 team saves and allows .92 goals per game.
 
On the series history…
This is the 23rd meeting between the two teams, with A&M-Commerce leading the series 17-5-0. The Patriots took the last matchup in 2019, 2-1, but it is the Lions who have taken five of the past seven matches against DBU.
