COMMERCE – Texas A&M University-Commerce has announced the hiring of Dale Brown as Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance and Student Services.
In this role, Brown will lead the Lions' NCAA compliance efforts, which will be especially important as A&M-Commerce transitions to NCAA Division I and the Southland Conference.
"I am extremely excited for the opportunity to join the Lion family," Brown said. "A&M-Commerce is a special place where everyone shares in the excitement and commitment in the transition to Division I. I want to thank Tim McMurray in trusting me with the opportunity in leading the building of our compliance program into a Division I model."
Brown comes to A&M-Commerce after four years at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah – two as the Compliance Coordinator and two as the Associate Director of Compliance. His duties included monitoring the activities of all of Weber State's student-athletes, coaches, athletics department staff members, and boosters to ensure compliance with NCAA, Big Sky Conference, and institutional rules - specifically working with Bylaws 11 (Personnel), 12 (Amateurism and Athletics Eligibility), 13 (Recruiting), and 17 (Playing and Practice Seasons).
"Hiring Dale Brown to lead our athletics compliance efforts is another tremendous victory for Lion Athletics," A&M-Commerce director of athletics Tim McMurray said. "His commitment to serving our student-athletes, coaches, department and institution with a high level of detail was evident during the interview process. Among his numerous outstanding qualities, his combination of analytical thought and practical application ability truly stood out. We are thrilled to welcome Dale and his wife Amy to the Lion family."
A native of Mesa, Ariz., Brown earned a Juris Doctorate from West Virginia University College of Law in 2016. While at WVU, he served as Compliance and Student-Athlete Services Intern at the University of North Carolina-Wilmington and also as Compliance and Internal Operations Intern at Fairmont State University.
Before attending law school, Brown graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in History from Southern Virginia University. He was also a four-year starter on the baseball team at SVU, playing in the Small College World Series three years in a row. He is among the all-time leaders at SVU in hits, runs, and stolen bases. After graduating from law school, he served as the head baseball coach at Christendom College and also as Compliance Intern at the University of Central Florida.
In his free time, Dale enjoys playing in adult baseball and basketball leagues, following Major League Baseball, college football, and college basketball, and watching and reading History and Western movies and books.
