BEAUMONT– The Texas A&M University-Commerce volleyball fell to Lamar in four sets on Thursday evening at McDonald Gymnasium, via set scores of 15-25, 15-25, 25-20, and 18-25.
The Lions are now 9-15 on the season and a 5-5 in the Southland Conference play, while the Cardinals move forward to 8-13 on the season and a 2-8 in conference play. The Lions are tied for sixth place with Northwestern State in the conference standings.
Maddy Rashford (Placentia, Calif.) led the Lions with 10 kills and two blocks.
Celeste Vela (Guadalajara, Mexico) recorded 22 assist and four digs, while
Lyric Hebert (Arvada, Colo.) posted 13 digs and matched her season-high with five services aces.
Essence Allen (Longview - Tatum) put down eight kills, while
Taryn Cast (Peaster) had seven kills.
S1| The Cardinals took an early 12-5 lead on a 10-1 run and continued to hold the lead. The Lions went on a 6-1 run towards the end before the Cardinals closed out the first set, 25-15.
S2| Cast had a solo block to secure the Lions a 5-3 lead before the Cardinals tied the score and took a 10-7 lead on a 5-1 run. The Cardinals continued to hold the lead with a 9-1 run before securing the set win, 25-15.
S3| The Lions started the set on an 8-1 run to take the lead. The Cardinals using an 8-1 run of their own to rally for a, 14-13, lead. Both teams continued to go point-for-point before the Lions closed out the set on a 7-1 run taking the set, 25-20.
S4| Both teams benefited from early scoring runs before two 6-1 runs put the Cardinals in the lead, 14-6. The Lions went on a 5-1 run to get within five for a 17-12 score and put six more points on the board before the Cardinals secured the win, 25-18.
