Lions swept by McNeese on Senior Day

COMMERCE– The Texas A&M University-Commerce volleyball team fell to McNeese on Saturday morning at the Field House. The Cowgirls held the Lions to a .195 hitting percentage and only one service ace, via set scores of 25-23, 25-22, and 25-23.
 
The Lions are now 9-16 on the season, 5-6 in the Southland Conference, and hold the seventh place position in conference standings. While the Cowgirls move forward to 12-13 on the season and 8-3 in conference play putting them in second place.
 
SENIOR DAY
Prior to the match, the Lions honored their graduating seniors Taryn Cast (Peaster), Lyric Hebert (Arvada, Colo.), Kayla Lucas (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Maddy Rashford (Placentia, Calif.), and Celeste Vela (Guadalajara, Mexico).
 
Pennington collected 13 digs, while Hebert had 11 digs. Cast led the way hitting .429, with nine kills and seven blocks, Reese Fetty (Farmersville) also recorded nine kills hitting .346, and had three blocks.
 
Vela recorded 28 assists with three blocks against the Cowgirls. Essence Allen (Longview - Tatum), Rashford put down eight kills each, while Yasmin Figueiredo (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) had three blocks. Lucas had the lone service ace for the Lions.
 
S1 | The Cowgirls kicked things off taking an early 4-2 lead. Both teams continued trading points before a 5-1 run by the Cowgirls put them in the lead, 16-12. The Lions had two 3-0 runs to tie the score at 23-all before the Cowgirls took the final two points to take the first set, 25-23, holding the Lions to a .175 hitting percentage.
 
S2 | The Lions started off the second with a couple of early runs to take the lead 8-4. On a 6-0 run, the Cowgirls took the lead 10-8, and another 6-1 run widened the gap. A 5-2 run by the Lions put them three away points away. They put up seven more points before the Cowgirls secure the, 25-22, set win.
 
S3 | A 5-1 run by the Lions put them ahead, 5-3, before the Cowgirls chipped away to tie the score at 8-8 and recorded a 6-1 run to take the lead, 13-9. The Lions put up a 5-2 run to pull to within one, 17-16, and went on to tie the score at 18 a piece with back-to-back kills by Cast. On a 4-1 run to take the lead 22-19, the Cowgirls allowed the Lions to score four more points before winning the set, 25-23.

The Lions hit the road to compete at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. and Incarnate Word next Saturday at 1 p.m.
