WACO – It was a tale of two rounds for the Texas A&M University-Commerce men's golf team on Monday at the Ridgewood Country Club, finishing sixth at the Bear Brawl to close out the fall season, the Lions' first in Division I season.
After shooting a 304 as a team in the morning round, the Lions shot a 286 in the afternoon, highlighted by
Nathan McCulloch (Edinburgh, Scotland), who had a 14-stroke improvement in the two rounds to finish 10
th with a score of 144 (79-65). He had six birdies and an eagle in the second round.
"I'm really proud of the way our guys kept their head in the game for all 36 holes today," said coach
Brian Dolehide. "As a team, we had a rough start, but bounced back in the second round, tying for the second-lowest round. We're excited to get back to work this off season and have an incredible spring!"
Kittiphong Phaithuncharoensuk (Phuket, Thailand) tied for 11
th place with a score of 145 (72-73), Balint Zavaczki (Nyíregyháza, Hungary) shot a 150 (76-74) to tie for 25
th place.
Chance Mulligan (Dallas – Bishop Dunne) placed in a tie of 29
th place with a score of 151 (77-74), and
Simon Haas (Lorch, Germany) was 42
nd with a score of 159 (79-80).
Baylor's Luke Dossey and Oral Roberts' Brandon Hoff tied for the individual crown with scores of 138 each. Baylor won the team title with a score of 558 (285-273), 17 strokes better than the Golden Eagles.
The spring season tees off for the Lions on February 27-28 in Diamondhead, Mississippi, at the Gulf Coast Classic, hosted by New Orleans.
