COMMERCE– The Texas A&M University-Commerce volleyball team welcomed New Orleans to the Field House on Tuesday Evening. The Lions were defeated by the Privateers, 3-0, with set scores of 25-19, 25-22, and 25-16.
The Lions are currently tied with Northwestern State for sixth place in standings and now sit at 10-18 on the season and 6-8 in the Southland Conference. The Privateers are sitting in fifth and move forward to 14-12 on the season and 8-6 in conference.
S1| The Privateers used a 9-1 run to jump out to a 9-2 lead. The Lions put points on the board to pull to within two, 13-15, and put up nine more points before the Privateers took the first set 25-19.
S2| On a 5-1 run, the Privateers took the lead 8-4. The Lions returned the favor with a 10-3 run for a break to put them in the lead 15-12. The Privateers reclaimed the lead on an 11-3 run, with a 23-18 score and won the set 25-22.
S3| The Lions kicked things off with a 4-0 run to take the lead, 4-2, followed by the Privateers tying the score three times before taking the lead, 12-8, on a 6-0 run. The Lions chipped away as the Privateers continued to widen the gap and went on to win the match, 25-16.
Taryn Cast (Peaster) totaled 10 kills, three blocks, while
Essence Allen (Longview – Tatum) posted eight kills as well as nine digs.
Lyric Hebert (Arvada, Colo.) and
Ashley Pennington (Frisco – Liberty) had 10 digs each.
Celeste Vela (Guadalajara, Mexico) finished the match with 24 assists, seven digs, and one block.
Maddy Rashford (Placentia, Calif.) recorded four kills, six digs, and three blocks.
UP NEXT
The Lions quickly turn around to welcome Nicholls on Thursday at 6 p.m. before heading out to Hammond, Louisiana, to battle Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday at 1 p.m.
