COMMERCE– The Texas A&M University-Commerce volleyball team fell to the Nicholls Colonels on Thursday evening at the Field House. The Colonels defeated the Lions, 3-0, via set scores of 25-12, 25-18, and 25-22.
The Lions are in seventh place in standings, sitting at 10-19 on the season and 6-9 in Southland Conference play, while the Colonels hold are last in the SLC, moving forward to 6-21 on the season and 3-12 in conference.
S1| The Colonels set the pace with an early 11-2 run to for a 15-6 lead over the Lions. The Colonels held the Lions to a .103 hitting percentage and hit .458 in the first set. The Lions scored six more points before falling, 25-12.
S2| Neither team could pull away until the Colonels collected a couple of 4-1 rallies to create distance with a 15-10 score in the Colonels favor. The Lions had a late 5-2 rally to trail by five, 21-16, until a 4-2 rally by the Colonels secured the 25-18 win over the Lions.
S3| The Colonels jumped out with an early 5-2 lead on a 4-0 run. The Lions reciprocated with a 4-1 run to tie the set, 6-6. Both teams continued to trade runs to tie the set seven times with the Lions being down no more than three points, until a 5-2 run at the end gave the Colonels a 25-22 win in the third.
Taryn Cast (Peaster) led the way with 10 kills and a .600 hitting percentage, while
Maddy Rashford (Placentia, Calif.) followed with eight kills.
Celeste Vela (Guadalajara, Mexico) collected 28 assists and eight digs, while
Lyric Hebert (Arvada, Colo.) recorded 10 digs and one service ace.
Yasmin Figueiredo (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) put down seven kills with a hitting percentage of .312, and picked up two digs as well as two blocks, with
Millie Allgood (Sherwood, Ark.) recording seven digs and five kills on the night.
UP NEXT
The Lions head out to Hammond, Lousiana, to battle Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday at 1 p.m. before returning for their last home match against Houston Christian next Thursday, November 10, at 6 p.m.
