RICHARDSON – Texas A&M University-Commerce women's golfer
Sophie-Charlott Hempel has been named the Lone Star Conference Women's Golfer of the Week on Thursday afternoon.
Hempel (Pirmasens, Germany) guided the Lions to the tournament win at their home tournament, the Lion Invitational, which is the program-record third team win this season. She finished just a stroke behind the individual champion and carded three rounds of 75, battling rain and tough winds to card her third top-5 finish of the season.
She is the first Lone Star Conference Women's Golfer of the Week for the Lions this season. This is Hempel's first career weekly award and first for the Lions since
Sarah Wongsinth to end last season.
The Lions head to Arizona to conclude the regular season next weekend at the RJGA Palm Valley Classic on April 1-2 and the West Texas A&M Desert Invitational on April 4-5.
