Lion Men's Golf misses Medal Match play by two strokes, McCulloch finishes third at LSC Championships

GLEN ROSE – Despite late-round drama from the Texas A&M University-Commerce men's golf team on Tuesday at Squaw Valley Golf Course, the Lions missed medal match play at the Lone Star Conference Championships by two strokes, finishing tied for sixth overall and Nathan McCulloch placed third on the player leaderboard.

The Lions entered the day eight strokes back of fourth place and shot -10 as a team in the third round. An eagle from Zach Burch (Lubbock – Cooper) and a birdie from Chance Mulligan (Dallas – Bishop Dunne) on the 18th hole brought the Lions within one of Oklahoma Christian for fourth place, but a bogey set them back by two.

A&M-Commerce awaits the NCAA Selection Announcement on Friday afternoon for the 10 teams from the South Central region selected to the South Central/West Super Regional. The Lions were ranked No. 5 in the last regional rankings prior to the selection announcement.

"We gave it a run today, but just came up short ultimately," said coach Ryan Hand. "Congratulations to Nathan on his third place finish."

McCulloch (Edinburgh, Scotland) shot 4-under on Tuesday to finish third with a score of 202 (67-67-68). Kittiphong Phaithuncharoensuk (Phuket, Thailand) also shot a 68 on Tuesday, he tied for 12th place with a score of 209 (74-67-68). Mulligan is tied for 19th place with a score of 212 (74-68-70).

Burch finished the third round, shooting even par and is tied for 44th place with a three-round score of 222 (73-77-72) and Simon Haas (Lorch, Germany) tied for 51st with a score of 225 (74-76-75).

Texas A&M International's Mauricio Figueroa won the individual conference championship with a score of 200 (65-67-68). Midwestern State finished first as a team during stroke play and will take on Oklahoma Christian in the first semifinal, while Cameron and West Texas A&M square off in the other semifinal.
