PRAIRIE VIEW – The Texas A&M University-Commerce volleyball swept the Prairie View A&M Panthers, 3-0, to secure the program's first win as a Division I program and A&M-Commerce's first win over a Division I opponent on Tuesday night at the Baby Dome.
The Lions pulled away with three 3-0 runs early in the match and pushed the score to 10-4.
Reese Fetty (Farmersville) had four service aces in the first set, assisting the Lions to widen the gap. A service ace by
Celeste Vela (Guadalajara, Mexico) secured the set win over the Panthers, 25-13.
Holding onto the lead until the very end, the Lions jumped out to a 13-6 lead with a 7-1 scoring run. With a solo block, Vela, locked the door on the Panthers to win the set, 25-11.
The third and final set was close throughout with the Lions trailing 9-6 early. The Lions chipped away and used an 8-0 run to take the lead, 14-9.
Essence Allen (Longview - Tatum) widened the gap at 21-16 with her third kill of the set before an attack error by the Panthers secured the match win for the Lions.
Fetty lead the board with 11 kills, 15 points, and four service aces on the Panthers.
Ashley Pennington (Frisco - Liberty) led the team with 11 digs, and Vela dished out 23 of the 31 assists for the Lions.
