LUBBOCK – The Texas A&M University-Commerce track and field teams completed their first meet of the season on Saturday at the Corky Classic hosted by Texas Tech at the Sports Performance Center, with
J.T. Smith winning the 60 meter dash.

MEN
J.T. Smith won the 60 meter dash with a time of 6.60 seconds, which adjusted for altitude is the sixth-fastest time in the country this season. The Lions closed out the day on the track with a sixth-place finish in the 4x400 relay. Eddie Barrientes (Chisholm Trail), Conner Stockerl (The Woodlands),
Philip Kranek (Kostelní Strimelice, Czech Republic), and
Delan Edwin (Castries, Saint Lucia) timed 3:13.84.
Micky Ferdinand (Micoud, Saint Lucia) jumped 22 feet 10.75 inches (6.98m) to finish third in the long jump.
Trayveon Franklin (Montgomery) finished third in the triple jump with a mark of 48 feet 0.75 inches (14.65m).
WOMEN
The Lions' 4x400 meter relay team of
Danielle Nicholson (McKinney North),
Leah Pattis (McKinney North),
Naomi Ndukwe (Perserville, France), and Maïa Maury (Noisy-Le-Grand, France) placed 10
th with a time of 3:53.55.
Sofia Khenfar (Lyon, France) timed 25:02 in the 200 meter dash for 12
th place.

The Lions split the squad next weekend, with a few student-athletes heading to Air Force for the Lindeman Invitational on Thursday through Saturday, while others go to Oklahoma for the J.D. Martin Invitational in Norman on Saturday.
