CORPUS CHRISTI – For the 12
th year in a row, the Texas A&M University-Commerce volleyball team is playing in the postseason. The Lions are seeded eighth in the Southland Conference Tournament and play fifth seed Northwestern State on Thursday at Corpus Christi in the first round at 3 p.m.
The Lions went 9-22 overall this season and 5-13 in Southland Conference play to finish eighth. Northwestern State went 13-16 overall and 9-9 in conference play. The Lions have lost nine in a row to close out the regular season, while the Lady Demons have lost four in a row.
In the regular season, the Lions won in five at home, while the Lady Demons swept the Lions in Natchitoches on October 24. A&M-Corpus Christi serves as the host of the SLC Tournament, with all matches being played at the Dugan Wellness Center.
The Lions have qualified for the postseason for the 12
th year in a row and are looking to win a postseason match for the second year in a row. The streak of 12-straight postseason trips is the longest active streak among any sport at A&M-Commerce.
The winner of Thursday's match will advance to face fourth seed Houston Christian on Friday at 3 p.m. Southeastern, the 2023 Southland Champion, will be the matchup for A&M-Commerce in the semifinals on Saturday at 2 p.m., if it advances. The Southland Tournament Championship match is set for 2 p.m. next Sunday.
