Ibrahim and Smith to compete at World Athletics Championships

BUDAPEST, Hungary – Two former Texas A&M University-Commerce track and field national champions are slated to compete at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest this week.
 
Moaz Ibrahim is competing in the men's discus for Qatar on Saturday, August 19, while J.T. Smith is part of the men's 4x100 meter relay pool for the United States, slated to run in the first round on Friday, August 25.
 
Ibrahim enters the World Championships as the 41st ranked discus thrower in the world. He won the 2022 NCAA Division II National Championship and is the all-time National Championships meet record holder and stands at No. 5 all time in Division II with a mark of 200 feet 10 inches (61.21m).
 
Smith won the 2022 NCAA Division II Men's 100 Meter Dash National Championship and the 2023 USA Track & Field Men's 60 Meter Dash National Champion. His current world ranking in the 100 meter dash is No. 48. He is also the 2023 Southland Conference indoor 60 meter dash and outdoor 100 meter dash champion and the all time Southland Conference Championships meet reord holder in the 4x100 meter relay.
