NEW ORLEANS – Two East Texas A&M University track and field student-athletes and both the men's and women's team earned All-Academic recognition from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Veronika Kramarenko (Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine) and
Ushan Perera (Mahabage, Sri Lanka) were both named NCAA Division I All-Academic Athletes, while both the men's and women's teams were named to the All-Academic teams list, which includes all NCAA Division I programs that hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or higher.
To be named an All-Academic Athlete, student-athletes must hold a cumulative GPA of 3.25, complete at least two semesters at the nominating institution, and must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships during the outdoor season or ranked top 96 in the country during the indoor season.
Kramarenko finished second in the high jump at the Southland Conference Indoor Championships, while winning the outdoor high jump conference title for the second time in her career. She is a health kinesiology & sports studies major and has earned the USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete honors for the second year in a row.
Perera won his fifth conference title as a Lion after taking home gold at the SLC Indoor Championships. He has won four national championships and five conference titles in his Lion career. Perera is also a health kinesiology & sports studies major.
The Lion men are among five programs in the SLC to earn the honor, while the women are among eight SLC programs to earn the honor this year.
